THE
BOOTLEG BEATLES
The’ Worlds Greatest Tribute Band’ tell the story

with the bands sharing the stage. and later for their massive
outdoor events. in Loch Lomond, Cork and Knebworth. These gigs
and an appearance on the NME cover, heralded the Bootleg Beatles'
breakthrough to a new contemporary audience. Since becoming
regulars on the festival circuit, The Bootlegs have played
Wembley with Rod Stewart and Elton John, and filled Tokyo's
Budokan Hall. A scoop for St Ives, usually at much bigger halls

If 'choir' to you means altar boys in white smocks, or St Winifred's
Grandma We Love You... think again. Formed four years ago, the Penzance
based Acorn
Choir boasts enthusiastic members from seventeen to seventy, whose mixed
repertoire of traditional and contemporary songs makes for a varied,
inspired evening
of
pure listening pleasure. In the tuneful, capable hands of choir leaders

Show of Hands are without a doubt one of the strongest
current forces in acoustic music. An alchemist couldn't
have come up
with a more
potent, magical mix than
that of Phil Beer, who can, as The Scotsman observed, “play nearly every
stringed instrument known to man” and the inspired Steve Knightley, described
by Mike Harding at BBC Radio 2's 2007 Folk Awards as “one of England's
greatest singer songwriters”. 2007 was a milestone year for England's most
popular roots duo - with a third sell out gig at the Royal Albert Hall. and this
year sees the once-again nominated group (Best Live Act & Best Duo 2008)
undertaking a string of major festival appearances across the UK with a welcome
return to St Ives Festival. “One of the great English bands” - Peter
Gabriel. “A great live band - catch them if you can.” - Johnnie Walker,

SETH LAKEMAN +
Gallys Folly
In July 2005 Seth Lakeman found himself short-listed for
the Nationwide Mercury Prize, the most sought-after
prize in British
music, alongside
the likes
of Kaiser Chiefs and Coldplay. Unlike Coldplay's album
however, 'Kitty Jay' was
recorded
for around £300 in the kitchen of his brother
Sean's Devon cottage. The album was released on Seth's
own label, I-Scream.A fantastic performance at the
Mercury Awards ceremony and two BBC Radio 2 Folk Award
nominations, helped propel 'Kitty Jay' into becoming
the fastest selling album of its kind in years. The
Seth Lakeman Trio then completed a mammoth sell-out
tour of the UK and wound
up an amazing year by opening for The Pogues on their
annual Christmas show in London. The impact of this
success also found Seth diverse champions in Billy
Bragg, Pete Tong, Jo Whiley, Jools Holland and Ricky
Gervais.

MARTIN
CARTHY & DAVE
SWARBRICK
Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick first joined up in early
spring 1966 as a performing unit. They were an immediate
hit, becoming
overnight the most
popular
group in
the burgeoning folk club scene in Britain. All the
old skills are demonstrated
with a new collection of traditional songs and instrumentals.
Their experienced approach to their art lacks none
of the fervour of
their early days,
and brings a maturity born of many years living with
the music, an integral part of their
beings. "Intense and demanding, this is
hard core traditional music. Sublime fiddle playing
and the passionate delivery of evocative old songs
by
their ablest interpretor. All Seated-unreserved

guitar, bouzouki; Emily Saunders vocals, violin,
viola and Jude Rees;

English folk music added punch with their unique instrumental line-up and compelling
harmonies. A favourite band of Show of Hand’s Phil Beer who they are increasingly
associated with in support and backing roles. This concert follows Isambarde’s
acclaimed visit to last year’s festival. Supported by St Ives’ own
singer/songwriter/guitarist the unashamedly English,
NICOLA CLARK this concert celebrates the best in
contemporary and innovative traditional English
folk music,
